The most common configuration is to use the Thule GoalPost on a rear hitch receiver and a single crossbar style half pack roof rack system up front on the vehicle roof top (video uses the Thule 480 Traverse Half Pack roof rack mounted to a Toyota Tundra pickup truck cab roof top). The very long items you are transporting, such as canoe, kayaks, ladders, lumber etc., can then span between the front half pack roof rack crossbar and the rear Thule 997 GoalPost crossbar.
