Standing beside this awesome Honda Pilot roof rack setup for carrying skis and a bike are Mr. Reeder, Yakima Racks Sales Rep, and Shawn, ORS Racks Direct Operations Manager.
Lucky us for a recent visit from Mr. Reeder, Yakima Racks Sales Rep. A great day was had by all at ORS Racks Direct, as we spent the day discussing all things concerning Yakima Racks… exciting new products are now available for 2010, including the Yakima FrontLoader bike rack, Yakima SpareTime spare tire mount bike rack, Yakima EvenKeel kayak rack etc. Of course, before Steve had a chance to jump back in his car and head back home, we were able to capture yet another poor quality image (due to using a Blackberry camera and foggy weather) of his sweet Honda Pilot roof rack for carrying skis and a bike. The Yakima RailGrab roof rack is mounted to the Honda Pilot factory side rails and the Yakima SkyBox LoPro ski box and Yakima SprocketRocket bike rack are attached to the RailGrab cross bars. Pictured along with Mr. Reeder is Shawn, ORS Racks Direct Operations Manager, obviously involved in high-level rack science discussions.

Honda Pilot roof top cargo system using Yakima Railgrab sytem with Yakima Skybox LoPro roof box, Yakima Sprocket Rocket bike rack and Yakima Kayak Stacker with Yakima RackandRoll trailer with Yakima ForkLift bike tray. Phew.
Either this person is the ultimate rack star or our Yakima rep. Either way, someone knows how to use auto racks to carry lots and lots of gear and cargo. From the top of this 2006 Honda Pilot is the Yakima Railgrab system mounted to the factory side rails upon which is mounted the Yakima SkyBox LoPro cargo box, the Yakima Sprocket Rocket fork mounted bike carrier, and out of view but nonetheless present is the Yakima Kayak Stacker. On the roof of this Honda Pilot alone, a bicycle, two kayaks, and lots of gear can be safely and securely carried. But that wasn’t enough for this rack king of the road. To really go over the top, this Pilot is towing a Yakima RackandRoll trailer with 66″ roundbars which can carry just about any Yakima, (such as the Yakima ForkLift bike rack pictured here) Thule, Inno, Malone, or RockyMounts accessory, as well as general cargo such as cardboard boxes, held securely down with Yakima Heavy Duty loadstraps. There’s not much room left over to rack this ride, but in this case, I think that is ok.

Volvo XC70 luggage rack using Thule 687XT Atlantis 1800 cargo box mounted to Volvo XC 70 factory side rails.
Nice car. Nice cargo box. This Thule 687xt Atlantis 1800 roof box has 18 cubic feet of capacity to carry all the stuff that you don’t want to carry inside your own nice car. This Volvo XC70 comes with factory crossbars that the Atlantis 1800 mounts directly to.

Customer install picture of Toyota Matrix using Yakima Q Tower base rack system with Thule Ascent Cargo box and Yakima Sprocket Rocket bike racks.
These folks went on a crosscountry road trip in their Toyota Matrix and were able to take plenty of gear and toys with room to spare inside the vehicle. For a base rack, they are using the Yakima Q Tower complete system. On top is a Thule 604 Ascent 1600 Cargo Box. For bike transport, they are using a pair of Yakima Sprocket Rockets. Just goes to show that you don’t need a van to carry everything you need to have an amazing trip.

GMC Envoy with Thule Evolution Cargo Box attached to factory roof racks. Thule Evolution cargo box has become Thule Atlantis Cargo Box.
This GMC Envoy looks mighty fine with a nice Thule cargo box mounted directly to the factory roof racks, but don’t fall in love with this particular cargo box, because The Thule Evolution 1800 cargo box has been upgraded and is now the
Thule Atlantis 1800 cargo box.

- Toyota Matrix Cargo Carrier using Thule 400XT rack system with Thule Atlantis 1600 Cargo Box
A great way to boost the cargo capacity of a smaller car is with a cargo box. This Toyota Matix is using a Thule Atlantis 1600 Cargo Box, which is the perfect size box for this vehicle. You can see that because it isn’t too long, it won’t interfere with the opening of the rear hatch, yet it is wide enough to carry lots of gear. The Thule Atlantis 1600 luggage rack is mounted to the Thule 400XT base rack system.

Q: I can’t figure out how to change a Thule lock cylinder on a Thule Atlantis roof box. I want to change my lock but cant take the key out to put the removal key in. As you know Thule boxes wont let you take the key out unless it is locked.
A: This is a fantastic question. To get a Thule lock cylinder out of a Thule box requires that you have the dedicated locking key and a master or control key. You would insert the dedicated key into the Thule lock cylinder on the cargo box and turn only 10 degrees, now pull the dedicated key out and insert the control key. You can now use the control key to wiggle a bit and the cylinder will pop out. I know it sounds weird but this is truly how its done!

Thule 682 SideKick luggage box
Get to know this jolly lil’ fella by watching the Thule 682 SideKick cargo box video. This car rack mounting luggage cargor carrier attaches to most factory rack crossbars as well as to any cross bars on Thule, Yakima and inno roof rack systems. Looking to keep all your gear dry and protected from Mother nature’s nasty side, the SideKick can help you out in that department too. With 8 cubic feet of cargo capacity you’ll have room enough for 2 golf bags or all your grocery and shopping bags. And of course its great for classic roof box uses such as hauling luggage, camping equipment, sports gear and more.
