Q: I’m looking for a rack system for my Dodge Sprinter Van.

A: We had great luck with the Yakima Control Tower System ( you need two boxes of Landing Pad 1 and you’ll have to pick the appropriate bar length to span across the van from track to track), and once this is on you can use the Yakima Megawarrior and for a bit more room add in the Megawarrior Extension . The picture of the Sprinter Van on our site is a local ski school and they wanted maximum strength and size, so they went with enough Control Towers to give 5 bars, and I believe they used a Megawarrior with 3 or 4 extensions. If you stick with one CT system, one MW and one MW Ext. you are looking at about $732 (at the time of this posting).

If you’re hauling a fifth wheel camper, you’re not able to carry kayaks in the traditional, rear mounted way. This 2008 Dodge Ram 3500 kayak rack with a fifth wheel camper shows you how you do it. It is using the Thule 480 Traverse Half Pack system with Fit Kit 1528 on the cab and the Yakima Dry Dock T-Bar Hitch Rack out front. In this case, it’s totally fine to mix and match different brands, as the Yakima round bar and the Thule square bar both accept the kayak carriers that we are seeing, which are the Thule 878 Set-To-Go- kayak saddles, the Yakima Mako kayak saddles, and two sets of Yakima Hully Roller kayak rollers.
