There’s a lot going on with this rack star’s ridiculously racked up rig. This Chevy Suburban roof bike rack system and rear mount hitch bike rack system is using the Thule 450 Crossroad base rack mounted to the factory side rails with 5 Thule 594XT SideArm upright style bike racks. Mounted to the 2″ receiver hitch are the Thule 916XTR T2 platform style hitch mounted bike rack with the Thule 918XTR T2 2-bike add-on. If my math is correct, this rig can hold 9 bikes! And in addition, there is a ladder attached using the Thule 503 Load Stops.

This VW Jetta hitch mounted bike rack is using the Saris 4229 Thelma 2 hitch mount bike rack.

Here’s a nice shot of a Volkswagen Jetta 4 Door rear mounted hitch bike rack using the Saris 4229 Thelma 2 hitch bike rack.  It attaches to either 1 1/4″ or 2″ receiver hitches and carries two bikes in the upright position. This Jetta has a 1 1/4″ receiver and is using the Saris 3022 Locking Hitch Tite to lock the Saris Thelma 2 bike rack into the receiver. Also recommended is the Saris 981 Locking Cable to lock the bikes onto the rack.

Here is a nicely racked up rig that I recently spotted on my way to somewhere.  This Toyota Tacoma hitch bike rack and roof kayak rack system is using the Yakima SwingDaddy hitch bike rack mounted to the 2″ receiver and is ready to carry up to four bikes.

On the roof, a set of Yakima 42″ tracks has been installed and is supporting the Yakima Control Tower system which uses two sets of Landing Pads #1 to connect to the tracks. 

For transporting kayaks, two sets of Yakima Mako saddles are attached to the Yakima crossbars, and the Yakima BoatLoader kayak lift assist accessory, which integrates into one of the crossbars, is ready and waiting to help with the job of loading and unloading the kayaks.

Here is an I Spy shot of a Honda Odyssey mini van rear hitch bike rack for 4 bikes using the Yakima BigHorn 4 hitch bike rack.  Hitch bike racks are an excellent way to safely and securely carry bikes and unlike trunk mounted bike racks, the rack doesn not contact the vehicle. All you need is either a 1 1/4″ or 2″ receiver hitch.

Thule Racks has just begun shipping to dealers nationwide the brand new Thule T2 series of platform bike racks, replacing the previous models with a security upgrade that safeguards the bicycles from theft when loaded onto the bike rack and left unattended. The Thule 916XTR T2 hitch bike rack replaces the previous 916XT T2 model, while the Thule 917XTR T2 platform bike rack replaces the previous 917XT T2. The security upgrade features a new cable lock on the end of each SecureHook mechanism that clamps down and holds the front wheel in place on the bike tray. The former 916XT and 917XT models only had a lock on each SecureHook that locked the arm in place so no one could come along and raise up the SecureHook clamp arm. However, in certain situations, using certain model fat tire bicycles, some one could actually come along and let out the air in the tire and then muscle the bike wheel out from under the SecureHook clamp arm. The new cable locks on the Thule 916XTR T2 and the Thule 917XTR T2 hitch bike racks extend out from the end of each SecureHook and wrap around the actual bicycle frame to lock the bike to the rack. If you do have an older model 916XT or 917XT, you could simply use a regular bike cable lock on the bicycles and this would eliminate this issue as well. The 916XTR T2 fits 2 inch trailer hitches, while the Thule 917XTR T2 fits 1-1/4 inch trailer hitch receivers. Also available is the Thule 918XTR T2 2 Bike Add-On, which is an optional accessory for the 916XTR T2 model.  The 918XTR attaches to the end of 916XTR T2 and allows for the transport of an additional two bicycles.
