Image of a (hidden) 2009 Subaru Legacy kayak trailer for 2" receiver hitch using the fantastic Malone MPG460G Microsport trailer with two Malone MPG106MD AutoLoader kayak racks.
You’ll just have to take our word that this is a 2009 Subaru Legacy kayak trailer for two kayaks. Have we ever lied to you? Of course not. Regardless, what is certain, is that it is carrying a very, very nice kayak using the Malone MPG106MD AutoLoader kayak carriers mounted to the crossbars of the Malone MPG406G Microsport kayak trailer. But it could be any vehicle as long as that vehicle has a 2″ receiver hitch and it could be set up to carry a canoe, bicycles, a cargo box etc. The bottom line is that the Malone Microsport trailer is a great solution for carring gear and loading and unloading, especially when it comes to kayaks, is much easier than on a roof top.

Picture of the all-new MPG116MD Malone Racks J-Pro j-style kayak carrier, a cheap kayak rack that still manages to accomplish what other more expensive carriers normally are only able to do... fit any roof rack including factory rack crossbars, Whispbar, Yakima, Thule, Inno car rack cross bars etc., transport any kayak up to 34" wide and 75 lbs. and be covered under the Malone Auto Racks lifetime warranty program.
Photo of the MPG117MD Malone Racks J-Pro2 j-style kayak carrier, a mid-level kayak rack that includes all the same features as the Malone J-Loader j-cradles kayak rack except that it does not offer the boarding ramp integrated into the base of each of the cradles for easy kayak loading. Fits factory racks and any Yakima, Whispbar, Inno, Thule roof rack crossbars etc. Holds boats up to 36" wide and 75 lbs.
Rounding out the recreational-level and entry-level kayak rack offerings in the Malone Auto Racks new series of j-cradle style kayak carriers, the MPG117MD Malone J-Pro2 kayak rack and MPG116MD J-Pro kayak rack are superb options for anyone focused on a well balanced blend of solid features and value pricing. The Malone J-Pro2 kayak rack is in fact very similar to the more expensive Malone J-Loader kayak carrier and lacks only the integrated boarding ramps at the bottom of each cradle to allow for easily sliding the boat onto the cradles. It also is not compatible with the MPG351 Malone Telos Lift-Assist device (Malone Telos works on the DownLoader, J-Loader and AutoLoader kayak racks only). Other than that it serves as an excellent carrier that will last for years and years of reliable use. The Malone J-Pro j-cradles are available as a cheap kayak rack option and will meet any budget minded consumer. Will never rust or corrode and includes adjustable pads on the upright cradles. Both the J-Pro2 and the J-Pro include the proprietary Malone Racks JAWZ universal mounting hardware so they work on any factory roof rack cross bars as well as car rack crossbars from Thule, Inno, Yakima, Whispbar and more. The J-Pro2 fits boats up to 75 lbs. and 36″ wide while the J-Pro works with any kayak up to 75 lbs. and 34″ wide.

Picture of the MPG114MD Malone Racks Downloader fold-down kayak carrier, a premium j-style kayak rack with cradles that can fold down when not in use. Fits all roof racks including factory rack crossbars and any cross bars from Whispbar, Yakima, Thule, Inno etc.
Photo of the MPG118MD Malone Racks J-Loader kayak rack, which other than lacking the convenient folding down kayak cradles, is exactly the same as the Downloader model.
Already a leader in the kayak transport industry with a full line of car roof mount kayak carriers and trailer hitch mount tow trailers for hauling kayaks, Malone Auto Racks has launched a new series j-cradle style kayak carriers. Two noteable models are the Malone MPG114MD DownLoader fold-down kayak carrier and the Malone MPG118 J-Loader kayak rack. Both are essentially the same carriers with the one exception being the J-Loader model does not feature the folding down cradles for when there is no boat on the rooftop. Otherwise, they are exactly the same and can carry any size, style, or shape kayak up to 75 lbs and 36 inches wide. They also include the proprietary Malone Racks JAWZ universal mounting hardware that allows the carriers to attach directly to virtually all roof rack styles including factory racks and any car rack cross bars from Yakima, Whispbar, Thule, Inno and of course Malone. The folding down cradles feature on the DownLoader model serves to improve fuel efficiency while driving around town with no kayak on the car top. It also enable access to garages without having to first remove the carrier.

Side view of a 2010 Subaru Forester hauling two kayaks using the Thule 450 Crossroads feet with a pair of Thule 50" Crossbars and two set of the Malone SeaWing kayak saddles tied down with included load straps and tie downs.
Do you have two 14′ kayaks and a 250 mile drive to the water? This rack master does. Using the Thule 450 Crossroad roof rack system (includes Thule 450 Crossroads foot pack and pair of 50″ Load bars) for use with factory side rails, this 2010 Subaru Forester roof rack kayak carrier set up can easily carry two large boats side by side with room to spare. The kayak saddles chosen for this adventure are the Malone SeaWing kayak saddles which use universal mounting hardware to attach to Thule loadbars (as shown here), Inno, and Yakima crossbars as well as virtually all factory crossbars. These boats aren’t going to budge during the trip thanks to well done strapping down with the included load straps and bow/stern tie downs. For easier loading and unloading of the kayaks, the Malone Seawing kayak carrier can be combined with the Malone Stinger Lift Assist, which uses a sliding V-shaped cradle that extends backwards from the SeaWing saddle, providing a lower and further back loading point that will guide the boat forward into the saddles as you are lifting and pushing.

Malone Universal Cross Bars roof rack
If you’ve tightened the belt on spending these days and are frantically searching for a roof rack system that attaches to vehicle factory raised side rails, providing the cross bars needed for mounting gear carriers to carry your gear like surfboards, stand up paddleboard SUP, bikes, kayaks, canoe, skis and snowboards, luggage etc., you won’t want to waste any time checking out this new ORS Racks Direct video that showcases the Malone Auto Racks Universal Cross Rail roof rack system. The video covers all the features of this product, as well as providing a demonstration of how to install it onto a vehicle with factory raised side rails (the model vehicle in the video is a 2008 Volvo XC90). Mounts to most any standard raised factory side rails, however will not work on super fat diameter side rails such as those found on Nissan XTerra etc. This roof rack is available at a fraction of the cost of other much more expensive options from other leading car rack manufacturers (and the Malone Universal Cross Rails roof rack even includes a set of locks & keys to lock the car rack to the vehicle). FYI, for those that do not know, side rails are the pair of factory bars that run from the front to back of the roof top on the drivers side and passengers side.

Stellar shot of a 2009 Nissan Cube roof kayak rack system using the Yakima Q-Tower Base Rack System (Yakima Q Towers, Q31 Clips, and 78" Roundbars) with four Malone AutoLoader kayak racks.
Here’s a great example of how a roof mounted base rack system can haul a serious–heck, seemingly impossible–amount of gear. This 2009 Nissan Cube comes out of the factory with what we call a “naked roof” so the first order of business for this customer was installing the Yakima Q Tower system, which constists of a set of Yakima Q Towers, two pairs of #31 Yakima Q Clips, and a pair of Yakima Roundbars. The Cube calls for 58″ bars, but because this customer needed maximum gear capacity, he went with a pair of 78″ bars upon which he has installed four Malone AutoLoader J-style kayak cradles. To complete the system, as well as reduce the wind noise, he has installed a Yakima 50″ Fairing and the whole thing is locked down with a set of Yakima SKS 4 locks.

Image depicts some of the various canoe trailer and kayak trailer complete packages offered by Malone Auto Racks.
Malone Auto Racks now offers several kayak trailer and canoe trailer complete packages. Each package includes the base model Malone MicroSport tow trailer and trailer spare tire kit. Where the packages differ is in the various kayak carrier and canoe carrier options bundled with each specific package. Whether you plan to transport 4 kayaks on a trailer at the same time or combine a canoe with a couple of kayaks, carry stand up paddle boards on the trailer or even carry a couple of kayaks and still have room left on the Malone MicroSport trailer cross rails to also attach a cargo luggage box or bike racks etc., you will likely find a Malone Auto Racks complete trailer package available for your needs. Packages are also priced more cheaply than if buying the base trailer and the kayak carriers, canoe carriers and stand up paddle board racks separately. If you thought you could only carry kayaks, standup paddle boards and canoes on a car roof rack, then you should look into a tow trailer as another option. It is much easier to load and unload boats on trailers because they sit low to the ground. Several Malone Trailer Accessories are also available, including a storage trunk, upgradeable aluminum allow spoke wheels, extra long 78 inch cross rails, removable trailer tongue kit etc. The various Malone MicroSport Trailer packages available include the mpg461g, mpg461gs, mpg461gu, mpg461gl, mpg461gb and mpg462g.

Image of the MPG113MD Malone Seawing Stinger Combo kayak rack system. Malone Racks has packaged together the Seawing kayak saddles and the Stinger kayak lift-assist.
Cool news from the good folks at Malone Auto Racks, located just next door to us in Maine. Just in time for the 2010 kayak season is the MPG113MD Malone Seawing Stinger Combo kayak carrier, a complete kayak rack package that includes both the Malone Seawing kayak saddles and the Malone Stinger kayak lift assist. Malone Racks has smartly discounted the price of the complete Seawing Stinger combo package also. The kayak saddles feature a unique v-wing design with center mounting capability. This allows the kayak saddles to be installed very close to the outer edge of any vehicle’s multi-purpose base rack cross bars. The benefits of this design include the ability to mount another Seawing Stinger Combo package next to the first system so you can haul two kayaks next to each other on the car roof top if desired. It also allows for more room on the car rack cross bars to atach othe gear carriers like bike racks, a cargo luggage box etc. Includes Malone JAWZ universal mounting hardware for attaching the kayak rack directly to any factory racks and any aftermarket car rack crossbars from Yakima, Inno, Thule etc. The Stinger lift assist does a great job of preventing the kayak from making contact with the car, and also makes it very easy for one person to load and unload a kayak of any size.
