Staff install photo taken outside ORS Direct Headquarters of a Nissan Pathfinder hitch bike rack and rooftop cargo box using the Yakima HoldUp hitch bike rack with the Plus 2 Add-on for a total carrying capacity of four bikes. Mounted to the Pathfinder's factory crossbars is the Thule 687XT Atlantis 1800 cargo box.
A red taillight and a row of pine trees break up this otherwise gray scale photo of a Nissan Pathfinder rooftop mounted luggage rack and rear hitch mounted bike rack. Installed into the Nissan Pathfinder receiver hitch is the Yakima HoldUp hitch bike rack with the Yakima Plus 2 Add On 2 bike extension. Mounted directly to the crossbars of the Nissan Pathfinder factory roof rack is the Thule 687XT Atlantis 1800 cargo box. All racked up, back to Montreal they go.

Scenic shot of a 2008 Nissan XTerra kayak rack using Xterra factory rack with Thule 835XTR Hullaport kayak rack and Thule X-Adapt 3 long bolt kit.
The Nissan XTerra factory crossbars are larger than most factory bars, but does that mean you can’t mount Thule kayak racks directly to them? Absolutely not. You just need a little help from the Thule X-Adapt 3 kit which is simply a long bolt kit that replaces the shorter bolts that come with the Thule 835XTR Hullaport kayak rack. With those in place, this Nissan Xterra kayak rack set up is ready for the water.

Nice shot of a 2009 Nissan Versa luggage rack set up using the Inno IN-SU Roof Crossbar System (Inno IN-SU Stays, Inno B127 Cross Bars, and Inno K313 Fit Hooks, locks/keys included) and the Inno BRA120 Flextop 18 Roof Bag.
This is a great example of the multi-use versatilty of a base rack system. Here we have a shiny 2009 Nissan Versa roof rack luggage carrier system using the Inno IN-SU Roof Rack System (Inno IN-SU Stays, Inno K313 Fit Hooks, and B127 50″ Cross Bars, and included locks/keys) for its multi purpose base rack system. The Inno INA262 Medium Wind Fairing can be seen attached to the front crossbar not currently doing what it is designed to do, which is quiet wind noise at higher speeds. On top of the cross bars is the Inno BRA 120 Flex Top 18 cargo carrier roof bag, or luggage carrier, or whatver you may call “a highly weather resistant roof mounted cargo carrier that has an interior frame with a soft bag stretched around it that mounts to existing crossbars and carries a alot of gear and whose frame can be folded down flat when not in use.” The Inno BRA120 roof bag combines a hard-shell roof box and a soft-sided roof bag into one superior product. Delivers the versatility of multi-purpose gear transport, even skis and snowboards in winter, not to mention camping equipement and all the luggage you need for a family vacation. Folds flat when not in use for dramatic fuel efficiency.

Quality photo of a 2006 Nissan Frontier kayak roof rack and pickup truck bed bike rack using the Yakima Railgrab Towers with 58" Crossbars on factory side rails and Yakima HullyRollers and Mako Saddles kayak rack combo with Yakima Locking BedHead bike carrier.
Call this one “surf n turf” if you like, or call it a great use of racks for carrying your gear with the purpose of having fun. Whatever you call it, this 2006 Nissan Frontier kayak roof rack and pickup truck bed bike rack set up is using the Yakima Railgrab Roof Rack Kit (which comes with 58″ crossbars) attached to the Nissan Frontier factory siderails, and mounted to the cross bars is the kayak carrying combo of the Yakima HullyRollers kayak rollers with Yakima Mako Saddles kayak saddles. A Yakima SKS 4 pack lockpack keeps the rack system locked securely down. In the pickup truckbed is the Yakima Locking BedHead truck bike rack (locks included) mounted to the bed rails. Someone knows how to rack up and how to have fun, and that would be this guy.

Stellar shot of a 2009 Nissan Cube roof kayak rack system using the Yakima Q-Tower Base Rack System (Yakima Q Towers, Q31 Clips, and 78" Roundbars) with four Malone AutoLoader kayak racks.
Here’s a great example of how a roof mounted base rack system can haul a serious–heck, seemingly impossible–amount of gear. This 2009 Nissan Cube comes out of the factory with what we call a “naked roof” so the first order of business for this customer was installing the Yakima Q Tower system, which constists of a set of Yakima Q Towers, two pairs of #31 Yakima Q Clips, and a pair of Yakima Roundbars. The Cube calls for 58″ bars, but because this customer needed maximum gear capacity, he went with a pair of 78″ bars upon which he has installed four Malone AutoLoader J-style kayak cradles. To complete the system, as well as reduce the wind noise, he has installed a Yakima 50″ Fairing and the whole thing is locked down with a set of Yakima SKS 4 locks.

A superb photo of a 2010 Nissan Frontier kayak trailer using the Yakima RACK and ROLL trailer and 2 sets of Yakima LandShark kayak rack saddles. Two model Yakima Racks RACKandROLL trailers are available, one with 78 inch cross bars and the other with 66 inch cross bars.
This is an excellent image of a 2010 Nissan Frontier tow trailer for hauling kayaks. The ORS Racks Direct customer is using the Yakima RACKandROLL Trailer mounted to the Nissan Frontier ball mount on the trailer hitch receiver. Two sets of Yakima LandShark Saddles kayak racks are then connected to the trailer cross bars. This is a spectacular alternative to carrying gear such as luggage, bikes, canoes and kayaks on car roof top racks. With a trailer it is so convenient to load and unload the equipment at the much lower level. It’s also aerodynamic and fuel efficient because the Yakima RACK and ROLL trailer is towed behind the vehicle. Two versions of Yakima RACKandROLL Trailers are available, the Yakima RACKandROLL Trailer 78 has 78 inch crossbars and the Yakima RACKandROLL Trailer 66 has 66 inch crossbars. These trailers are also very lightweight so any car can tow them, and they fit any standard 1-7/8 inch ball mount on any class 1-1/4 inch or 2 inch trailer hitch receiver (2″ coupler for 2 inch ball mount also available). Many other accessories also available such as extra long tongue extension (allows for carrying 22 foot boats, the normal tongue allows for up to 17 foot boats), trailer spare tire, kick stand, heavy-duty shocks, safety pole and more. These tow trailers also conveniently ship via UPS. They store very compactly when not in use as well.

Nissan X-Terra bike rack set up using Thule's 594XT Sidearm mounted to factory crossbars and Thule's 916XT T2 hitch mounted bike rack for receiver hitch.
Here is a great shot of a Nissan X-Terra racked up to carry four bikes. Mounted directly to the factory crossbars, which due to their size and shape isn’t an application you’ll find in Thule’s Fit Guide, but is nontheless possible with a trip to the hardware store, are two Thule 594XT Sidearm upright bike carriers. Mounted into the trailer hitch is the Thule 916XT T2 bike rack. Both of these carriers use a ratcheting hook to support the bikes by the front wheel rather than the frame, so regardless of frame dimensions or wheel size, as long as your bike has two wheels, these carriers will work.

Nissan Titan bed rail bike rack system using Thule 42" tracks and Thule 430 Tracker II base system with Thule 517 Peloton bike rack
Here’s a great alternative rack system for truck owners. Instead of a rooftop system, like the Thule 400XT complete base system, or a truck rack, like the Thule 422XT Xsporter, this Nissan Titan is rocking a pair of Thule 42″ tracks permanently mounted to the bed rails which allows the use of the Thule 430 Tracker II base system. The great thing about this set up is that the feet and bars can be taken off when not needed with the push of a button. You can also see a Thule 517 Peloton bike rack attached to the crossbars with plenty of bar space left for a Thule cargo box or other attachment. The other nice thing about this set up is how it doesn’t interfere with the Tonneau cover. If you’re thinking of mounting racks to your Tonneau cover, consider this solution first.

Car rack customer installation of a 2009 Nissan Versa roof rack system using the Thule 400XT Foot Pack, 2183 Fit Kits and LB50 50 inch cross bars.
An excellent photo featuring a 2009 Nissan Versa car rack customer installation. The Thule 400XT Aero roof rack system serves as the multi-purpose base rack system that the customer can then connect whatever gear carriers he cares to use for transporting his gear around. The Thule 2183 Fit Kit clips are the Thule Fit Kits required for the 2009 Nissan Versa.

- Nissan X-Terra Luggage Rack using Thule Atlantis 21 Cargo Box mounted to Nissan X-Terra Factory Crossbars
Check out how nicely this Thule Atlantis 2100 cargo box nests into the Nissan X-Terra factory racks. Althought the Nissan X-Terra factory crossbars are oversized, the QuickGrip mounting hardware of the Atlantis 2100 has no problem latching on.

Nissan Frontier Truck Rack with TracRac Truck Rack System
This Nissan Frontier has the slick TracRac sliding pickup truck rack system in “outta the way” mode. This is the beauty of the TracRac sytem–when you don’t need the services of the crossbars, you can slide them together to maximize the carrying capacity of your truck bed. This also keeps the noise down.

2009 Nissan Versa Roof Rack for Hauling a Canoe
Q: I’m trying to figure out what components are needed for a 2009 Nissan Versa car rack for carrying a canoe. The 09 Nissa Versa doesn’t have any kind of rack on the car top right now, no side rails or anything. Do I need a roof rack on the cartop that I can then carry the canoe on? I want something very solid and sturdy that will prevent the canoe from shifting sideways or anything. I’ve used cheap canoe foam blocks and stuff and that is a total nightmare.
A: Yes, no matter what gear you plan to carry on your roof, you will need a multi-purpose roof rack base system. The Thule 400XT Aero roof rack base system is an excellent choice for your 2009 Nissan Versa. The Thule 400XT Aero system includes four Thule 400XT Aero Feet, a set of four Thule 2183 Fit Kit Clips (the 2183 Fit Kit Clips are specific to your 09 Nissan Versa) and two load bars. You will attach the canoe carrier directly to the 400XT Aero front and rear cross bars. The 50 inch crossbars are the recommended length for your Nissan Versa rooftop.
You can then attach the Thule 579XT canoe rack directly to the Thule 400XT Aero base rack cross bars. Includes a pair of heavy-duty securing straps. Also includes a pair of Thule 885 Quick-Draw tie-down straps to fully secure the front and rear of the canoe for very safe and worry free canoe transport.
