A: According the the manufacturer there is no fit for the TracRac T-Rac system that works with your 1998 Nissan Frontier. The heavier duty TracRac G2 Sliding Truck Rack will work with a 1998 Nissan Frontier. If you are interested in this system, measure the exact inside length measurement of your truck bed to make sure you order the correct components that go with the TracRac G2.

Another option is the Thule 422XT Xsporter Truck Rack which has a carrying capacity of 450 lbs.

A: Your 2010 Tundra will require the TracRac 21610 Baserail since you have a 6 foot bed. TracRac uses T-shirt sizing (XS, Short Long) to designate their baserail lengths. The XS is anything under 6 foot, Short is from 6-7 feet in length, and Long is for any bed over 7 feet in length.

Q: I’m looking for a canoe rack that’s removeable, and I thought my selection of the The Yakima Q Tower half rack would fit the bil but was told it would not work.. I assume the problem is the shape of the roof on the cab. I’d rather not do a permanent installation, although I’m not opposed to some drilling, as long as the front and rear racks are still removeable with minimal hassle.

A: Unfortunately the Nissan Frontier is a very difficult vehicle for us. We can do a drill in system with only one bar above the roof to match up with the Outdoorsman you’ve selected, and in this case I’d recommend the Yakima Control Tower ½ Pack System or as a full system with two bars.

You could always run two Outdoorsman out of the bed, but this does tend to skew items to be carried toward the rear of the truck.

An alternative is the Sportrack ABR527 which will need to be strapped through the doors of the vehicle but provides an easy on-off mounting system for the cab of your truck. We do not stock this item but can easily obtain it for you.

Q: Thanks for the suggestions. I don’t think I’m interested in the Sportrack, since I’d prefer a hard bar over the cab. Occasionally I wind up hauling lumber for small jobs, so I’m really looking for something that can do double duty and still be removable.

The Yakima Control Tower might work, but I’d like to see some schematics so I can understand exactly how it attaches. You mentioned drilling, but the only photos I saw online showed mounting to a pre-existing roof track. Would I be drilling into the roof of the cab? Anyway, some more details will help me know if it will work.

I have also considered going with two Outdoorsman (Outdoorsmen?) at the front and rear of the bed, but I’m hoping for a cab-mount rack to give me a longer capacity. I’m hauling a 14-foot ABS canoe (and sometimes lumber).

Can you tell me if the TracRac TracOne Truck Rack will fit my 2006 Nissan Frontier? I did the online Fit Guide and it came up TracRacG2, but I don’t want to spend that kind of money. If you can tell me if the TracOne will work, that will help me make my decision.

A: The TracRac TracOne will unfortunately not fit your Frontier, and it most likely is due to one of two reasons. Either you have a bed mounted track system that gets in the way (many Nissans have an item called the Utilitrac attached to the inner edge of the bed) or the distance from the top of your bedrail to under the bedrail is too great for the TracOne clamps to reach. I’m not sure which but in discussing this vehicle with TracRac, this is what I’ve learned. The TracRac Sliding G2 System is a fit, and it mounts into the stake hole pockets so we know that will work, but as you mention it is a great deal of money.

I realize the problems you are encountering with a short bed truck as I too have one. A single bar above the cab with something in the bed does usually answer all needs, and this is what I ended up doing. I use one bar above the cab, but I did not have to drill into the truck to put one on. If I was you, I would drill a permanent mount system into the truck cab (unfortunately I cannot tell you exactly where to drill) but we’ve had a lot of folks do so successfully and without issue. Here is picture of a Nissan Titan that one customer drilled in a track to have two bars on the roof: Permanent Mount on Titan. You would only need to drill four holes to mount a Landing Pad base, and then have the Control Tower rise out of that base, then you have forward support for your longer items!

Now available at select TracRac Racks and Thule Racks (Thule recently bought the Trac Rac Truck Rack Company) are two new products designed for use as heavy-duty, contractor grade van roof racks – the TracRac TracVan Double van rack with 2 crossbars and the TracRac TracVan Triple van rack with 3 cross bars. Both feature the same premium features found on the complete line of TracRac truck racks, such as bomber, super-strong 6063 T-6 aluminum materials that will never rust, and they resist scratches and chipping due to the dual powder coat finish that also delivers an incredibly good looking van roof rack worthy of mounting to any work van rooftop. The crossbars have a sleek, low-profile design that slices through the wind, producing no rack noise (a common problem with other van racks) and does a great job of maximizing fuel efficiency. The t-slot channels running the length of each cross bar also allow for attaching optional TracRac accessories as well as connecting gear carriers from other manufacturers so you can carry sporting equipment for those relaxing weekends. Load Stops are also included with the TracRac Trac Van roof racks, ideal for stabilizing ladders, lumber, pipes and conduit or even a canoe. The innovative, proprietary attachment design enables the TracVan Towers to simply clamp and tighten to any van raingutters (also called drip rails). Also attaches to artificial rain gutter brackets. The Trac Rac TracVan Triple holds up to 750 lb on the crossbars and weighs just 52 lb, while the Trac Rac TracVan Double holds up to 500 lb on the cross bars and weighs just 35 lb.

Now available from select TracRac Truck Racks dealers in the United States and Canada is the all-new TracRac Utility Rac truck rack system, designed specifically for mounting to any utility truck cargo bed boxes. The Trac Rac Utility Rac is a fully-featured super duty, professional work rack designed with the same innovative technology found on the popular TracRac G2 sliding truck rack system, now an icon in the commercial work truck rack-ladder rack industry. The UtilityRac system includes four 24 inch base rails that allow the rack towers and cross bars to be positioned anywhere along the 24 inch base rails. However, also available as an optional accessory is a pair of 4 foot extension base rails that mount in between the front and rear 24 inch base rails for a seamed up, continuous sliding track base rail system. This allows the TracRac Utility Rac to slide and position anywhere along the entire base rails length, providing a very versatile solution for transporing all kinds of cargo loads, both long and short, as well as storing the towers and crossbars all the way up front of the utility truck bed when not needed. The 4 foot extension base rails also enable several TracRac truck rack accessories to mount to the base rails, including base rail tie-downs, TracRac TracTonneau tonneau cover, sliding cargo divider, sliding TracRac tool box and more. Other accessories are also available for attaching to the overhead cross bars, such as cantilever extensions for protecting the utility truck cab roof and also supporting long loads, kayak rack, ratcheting cargo buckles etc. Accessories that are included with the TracRac UtilityRac utility truck rack system are a set of Load Stops and integrated ARC side cleats on each upright tower for additional tie-down points. Built of state-of-the-art 6063 T-6 no rust aluminum so it is super strong, holds up to 1,250 lbs, yet is lightweight at just 65 lbs. Dual powder coated finish prevents dings and scratches, plus it looks great. Features the TracRac Truck Racks lifetime warranty.

Simply install the CabRac into the front bed rail stake pockets and clamp the mounting feet onto the bed rails as well. Full pickup truck cab and rear window protection is achieved via the three sleek window guard cross bars. And the top crossbar sits in a low-profile position so entering low overhang areas such as garages is no sweat. Plus the top cross bar is aerodynamic and includes the TracRac Truck Racks proprietary trip strip running the length of the crossbar so there is no rack noise generated by the crossbar. All the crossbars, both the top bar and the 3 window guard bars, include a t-slot channel running the length of the bars allowing for attachment of cargo carrier accessories such as Load Stop tie-downs, ratcheting cargo buckles, rack mounting lights and more. The entire system weighs just 35 lbs.
