Who would want to drive to the river with their paddles jammed inside the car? J.D. of Mechanicsville, Virginia found a much simpler solution for his vehicle: a 2012 Volkswagen Golf TDI roof rack kayak paddle holder. This car rack for the VW TDI or GTI includes the Thule 480R Rapid complete system, using four 480R Rapid feet, 1323 Fit Kit, and Aeroblade ARB53 load bars, and the Thule 839 Get A Grip paddle and mast attachment, which connects effortlessly to the Aeroblade cross bars. Along with a Yakima base rack, the setup seen here includes a rooftop cargo basket and spare tire mounted rear bike rack. This customer mounted the Yakima Control Tower base system onto their hardtop roof using a set of four Control Towers with four permanent-install LP6 landing pads and two 58″ cross bars, and another pair of Control Towers with two LP6 landing pads and one 48″ cross bar, giving them the option of three rooftop cross bars for extra long loads. And when the front cross bar isn’t needed, remove the bar and towers easily and cap the landing pads for a smooth, integrated look.
The Yakima MegaWarrior gear and luggage basket attaches onto the cross bars to haul everything needed for an awesome road trip or camping weekend. Top it off with the Yakima SpareTime rear spare tire bike carrier for even more versatility. Keep the system secure with a Yakima SKS 6-pack of locks to lock the Control Towers to the roof, and Yakima Roof Basket Lock Brackets to secure the basket onto the crossbars.
