2010 Subaru Forester kayak roof rack Thule 450 Crossroad feet 50 inch Crossbars Malone SeaWing kayak saddles

Side view of a 2010 Subaru Forester hauling two kayaks using the Thule 450 Crossroads feet with a pair of Thule 50" Crossbars and two set of the Malone SeaWing kayak saddles tied down with included load straps and tie downs.

Do you have two 14′ kayaks and a 250 mile drive to the water?  This rack master does.  Using the Thule 450 Crossroad roof rack system  (includes Thule 450 Crossroads foot pack and pair of 50″ Load bars) for use with factory side rails, this 2010 Subaru Forester roof rack kayak carrier set up can easily carry two large boats side by side with room to spare.  The kayak saddles chosen for this adventure are the Malone SeaWing kayak saddles which use universal mounting hardware to attach to Thule loadbars (as shown here), Inno, and Yakima crossbars as well as virtually all factory crossbars.  These boats aren’t going to budge during the trip thanks to well done strapping down with the included load straps and bow/stern tie downs.  For easier loading and unloading of the kayaks, the Malone Seawing kayak carrier can be combined with the Malone Stinger Lift Assist, which uses a sliding V-shaped cradle that extends backwards from the SeaWing saddle, providing a lower and further back loading point that will guide the boat forward into the saddles as you are lifting and pushing.

2010 Subaru Forester Bike Rack for Car Roof Top

by Rack Princess on June 14, 2010

Combo shot of Yakima RailGrab Roof Rack System and RockyMounts PitchFork BikeRacks on 2010 Subaru Forester factory rack.

Looking for a 2010 Subaru Forester roof bike rack system? Check out this combo shot of Yakima RailGrab Roof Rack System and RockyMounts PitchFork Bike Racks on 2010 Subaru Forester factory rack.

This is a great shot of how you can combine different car rack manufacturers AND factory rack systems for a complete roof rack and bike rack system for a 2010 Subaru Forester. The Yakima RailGrab roof bike rack system attaches to the factory side rails on the 2010 Subaru Forester (the Yakima RailGrab works on ALL factory side rails). This Yakima Roof top system includes a set of 4 RailGrab Towers and a pair of Yakima 48 inch cross bars (the proper length for a 2005 Subaru Forester). In this picture 2 RockyMounts PitchFork Fork mount bike trays are attached to the Yakima RailGrab rack system (snazzy green color!). RockyMounts 4 pack of locks and keys are used to lock the bikes to the PitchFork Bike Trays and the bike racks themselves to the cross bars. Meanwhile a 4 pack of Yakima SKS Locks and Keys lock the Yakima RailGrab Towers to the 2010 Subaru Forester.

A beautiful example of the Inno Racks IN-FR car rack and Inno INA382 bike rack used as a 2010 Subaru Forester roof rack bike rack setup.

Becoming more and more common out on the roads and highways of America are Inno Racks vehicle rack systems. With a long established reputation as the the car rack market leader in Japan and many parts of the world, Inno Racks is becoming a favored alternative to the major players in the USA such as Thule Racks and Yakima Racks. Several reasons include very competitive and often lower prices on roof rack and gear carrier options, locks included (other car rack makers charge extra for locks) and extremely well-made and premium design styling features. The photo above showcases a 2010 Subaru Forester car roof rack bicycle carrier system that is configured with the Inno IN-FR roof rack mounted to the Subaru Forester factory side rails, while the Inno INA382 Upright Lock bike rack is attached to the IN-FR base rack cross bars.

An excellent example of how you can save some cash if you have a car factory rack and you want to carry a kayak. This customer install photograph shows how nicely a 2006 Subaru Forester kayak roof rack can look with the Yakima BowDown kayak rack attached to the Subaru Forrester factory rack crossbars. This setup also efficiently uses up very little crossbar space so there is plenty of room to attach other gear carriers (or a second Yakima BowDown)  such as bike racks, snowboard-ski racks, cargo-luggage roof box etc. The Bow Down also can fold down when not being used so it looks very sleek and aerodynamic and also helps with fuel efficiency.

Subaru Forester Factory Side Rail Roof Rack System for carrying bikes and kayaks. Product used are Thule 450 Crossroads base sytem, Thule 516 Prologue bike rack, and Thule 830 Stacker kayak rack.

Here is a Subaru Forester car rack taking a break from a hard day’s work.  Mounted onto the Subaru Forester factory side rails is the Thule 450 Crossroads system with a pair of 58″ loadbars.  Mounted to the Thule 450 Crossroads system are two Thule 516 Prologue bike carriers and one Thule 830 Kayak Stacker.  If my calculations are correct, this set up will carry two bicycles and two kayaks at once.  If my speculations are correct, these folks know how to live it up.

Q: I have a 2005 Subaru Forester with a factory rack and crossbars installed. I needto haul one 11 foot kayak. Recommendations?

A: You are in luck because you can save money by simply attaching a kayak rack to your factory rack crossbars. you do not have to invest in a multi-purpose base rack system to replace your factory rack. You can choose from any of these factory rack compatible kayak racks. The two most popular categories of kayak carriers are kayak racks that carry the kayak flat and

Mounting the Thule Storage Bike Rack to the Wall

Q: Can the Thule BSTK2 bike storage rack be mounted on the wall to get the bikes a little higher and out of the way? Does the base come apart I could wall mount?

A: Yes the base is removeable, so it is possible to custom install to the wall providing you have the skill to drill and mount etc. This is not something recommended by Thule Racks, of course, and would invalidate the warranty. Other easier options can be found using some of the Delta bike storage racks such as the Leonardo or Chagall models.

Using Yakima Q Tower Roof Rack as a Ford Focus Car Rack System

Q: Can the Yakima Q Tower car racks cause rain to seep into around door? I am think of using this as a Ford Focus roof rack.

A: No chance of rain getting in. Car rack manufacturers invest much time and money engineering systems to prevent any possible water issues. The Q Towers roofrack is no exception. The Q clips provide a seemless fit so they don’t impact the car doors.

Inno Car Rack Fairing on 2010 Subaru Forester X Factory Rack

Q: Thinking about an Inno fairing for my 2010 Subaru Forester X. I have the factory crossbars only, with a Yakima Powderhound ski rack on top and am getting CONSIDERABLE wind noise at 50+ mph. The sizing guide says to use a 32 inch, but it seems like the 39 inch would be more appropriate (as the “silver part” of the crossbar itself is 38.5 inches). Which size do you think is best, and will this Inno Fairing be compatible with what I have/solve my wind noise problem?

A: That sounds like a very tight fit, and this is probably why Inno Racks decided on the small size in this situation. But if the total measurement of the crossbar from the inside of each side rail is at least 39″ then this should fit. You can always trim the fairing edges if that what it takes to make a perfect fit. Fairings are designed to eliminate that rack noise that can randomly occur. You’ll be happy with how effective the fairing takes care of this issue.
