For a very clean, integrated roof rack look the Yakima Control Towers roof rack system is often a great choice. This is achieved on many of today’s new cars that feature fixed attachment points on the roof top provided by the vehicle manufacturer. The picture above is an excellent example. It is a Subaru Impreza roof rack cargo box set up that uses the Yakima Control Towers car rack system mounted to the fix-points on the Subaru Impreza roof top via the Yakima LP11 Landing Pads that are included with the Yakima Control Tower system. A Yakima SkyBox 12 cargo-luggage-ski box is then connected to the Control Tower cross bars.

The most economical solution for carrying skis and snowboards on a factory rack is with the Yakima Buttondown Aero ski-snowboard rack, a very solid, reliable and cheap ski rack-snowboard rack that includes mounting adapter clamps for attaching directly to factory rack cross rails. This photo features a customer install of a 2009 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport snowboard rack-ski rack attached to the Subaru factory cross bars. Yakima Buttondown Aero also includes locks.

Subaru Impreza roof ski rack system using Thule 450 Crossroads base rack system with Thule 91725 Universal Flat Top ski/snowboard carrier

All this Subaru needs now is a little bit of snow.  It is ready to go with a Thule 91725 Universal Flat Top ski/snowboard rack for carrying up to six pairs of skis or four snowboards.  The Thule 91725 ski rack is mounted to a Thule 450 Crossroads base rack system for raised factory side rails.  This Subaru Impreza was spied in October in Vermont so it won’t be long before this set up is put to good use.
