Capitalizing on the stand-up paddleboard wave of popularity (ahem, pun intended) spreading across the U.S.A. and Canada, Thule Racks has launched some great new products to cover all stand-up paddle rack needs and budgets. And, at the same time, Thule also released new surfboard racks to fit a variety of price points and transport needs. For SUP racks, there is the Thule 810 SUP Taxi stand-up paddleboard rack. It features a long list of premium features, such as the new SpeedLink universal mounting system that works on any roof rack crossbars including factory racks,any crossbars from Thule, Whispbar, Yakima, Inno and more. The Thule Racks 810 SUP Taxi standup paddle board rack also has telescoping adjustment to fit all sizes of stand-up paddle boards. And the premium padding totally cushion the SUP too. You can stack multiple SUP’s as well. The coolest feature is the integrated locking system that locks the stand-up paddleboards and also the 810 Thule SUP Taxi itself to the vehicle. Thule Racks has gone back to the drawing board and completely redesigned and released a new series of roof rack pads for carrying stand-up paddleboards, windsurfers, surfboards, canoe, kayak and more. The rack pads are available in two different styles, the Thule 801 Surf Pads / Thule 802 Surf Pads and the Thule 803 Surf Pads / Thule 804 Surf Pads. The 801 (18 inches in length) and 802 (24 inches in length) are designed to mount to the standard Thule rack square load bars, Yakima round cross bars, Inno cross bars etc. The 803 (18 inches in length) and 804 (24 inches in length) are meant for using on factory racks, Thule Rapid Aero bars, Thule 422XT Xsporter truck rack crossbars and other ‘aero’ shaped cross bars. Using the surf pads in combination with a pair of rack straps or the Thule 531 Express surf straps is a solid, economical way to carry standup paddle boards, surfboards, windsurfers, kayak, canoe etc.

1993 Ford Explorer Surf Rack

Swell picture of a 1993 Ford Explorer surfboard roof rack using the Yakima Control Tower Complete system (Yamika Control Towers, 2 sets of Yakima Landing Pads #1, Yakima 48" bars) and a set of Yakima surfboard pads.

Well this 1993 Ford Explorer surfboard roof rack is still looking good.  It’s key to a long life?  Clearly the Yakima Control Tower roof rack system on top, which uses two sets of Yakima LP1 Landing Pads to connect the Yakima Control Towers to the Ford Explorer factory tracks (replacing the weak, incompatible factory rack system).  Wrapped around the Yakima 48″ crossbars is a set of Yakima surfboard pads and locking it all down is a set of the Yakima SKS 4 lock pack.  I would be doing a disservice if I didn’t point out the absence of the Yakima Strap Thang surfboard carrier, so here I am, pointing it out.  My guess is the little dog ran off before he could install it?
