Thule 480 Traverse roof rack system
The Thule 480 Traverse roof rack video from ORS Racks Direct offers an excellent demonstration of this multi-purpose base rack system that fits virtually all cars, vans and pickup trucks that currently have nothing on the roof top (no factory rack or factory side rails, no raingutters, no roof tracks, fix-point attachments etc.) The result of years of extensive design and engineering, the Thule 480 Traverse system is a vast improvement over the previous Thule 400XT Aero roofrack system. Uses half the parts of the 400XT Aero and installs in a fraction of the time. Includes Thule 480 Traverse Foot Pack, Traverse Fit Kit clips (many Fit Kits available, each designed to custom fit specific vehicles) and pair of load bars (varying load bar lengths available). Features sleek, aerodydnamic and modern styling that delivers a slick integrated look on all styles of vehicles. Any Thule gear carriers (as well as gear carriers from other car rack makers) will mount directly to the Thule square load bars.

The Thule 480 Traverse Half Pack is most often used in a configuration that includes the Half Pack installed on a truck cab roof and a T-mast style rack mounteed to the rear trailer hitch reciever or used along with a pickup truck bed rack. Ideal for hauling long items such as canoes, kayaks, lumber, ladders etc.

Thule 480 Traverse car rack review by 'Derek'. He is using the 480 Traverse system as a 2005 Honda Accord roof rack. The Thule 835Pro Hull-a-Port is then attached to the 480 Traverse cross rails.
Overall Rating: 5 Stars (out of 5)
Configuration: 2005 Honda Accord roof rack for carrying a kayak
“Installing the Thule 480 Traverse roof rack system was a snap! I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to do it by myself, but I was very pleased with how easily it all went together. I also use the Thule Hull-a-port Pro for carrying my kayak, and I am very pleased with how stable everything is! I never have to worry about transporting my kayak again.”

Thule 480 Traverse roof rack system review by 'Andrea". She is using it as a 2003 Chevy Silverado pickup truck rack.
Overall Rating: 5 Stars (out of 5)
“I ordered the Thule 480 Traverse roof rack system for my husbands 2003 Chevy Silverado pickup truck and he was able to install the system and found it fairly easy to do. I also ordered the fairing because I think it makes the overall system look better and sportier. I am overall happy with my purchase, although I cannot compare it to the Yakima Racks system because I have never owned one but many canoeing enthusists tell me the Thule system is better than Yakima. The only suggestion I would make is that on the fairing they suggested that his truck would need the size Large and to me the fairing doesn’t look quite wide enough for his truck. After measuring it and looking at the meausurements for the xlarge I think the xlarge would have been the better choice because I think the fairings should go across the whole vehicle.”

Q: I’m trying to install the Thule 480 Traverse car rack system on my Saab 9-2x but having issues. Specifically, the Thule 1210 Fit Kit clip is not long enough to reach from the Thule 480 Traverse Foot to the correct position on the Saab 9-2x door well. Any help?
A: Check out the photo below that troubleshoots this issue…

Image A depicts grey screw on the Thule 480 Traverse Foot in the fully tightened position and clip positioned at highest point (the Fit Kit attaches to the clip). If you find that the Fit Kit does not reach down far enough to be positioned correctly on your doorwell, simply fully loosen the grey screw and the clip will lower to its lowest position as depicted in image B. You can then attach the Fit Kit to the clip in this lowest position, allowing the Fit Kit to be properly positioned on the doorwell.
