Carrying Canoe on 2005 Toyota Tacoma Pickup Truck

by Rack Princess on June 14, 2010

2005 Toyota Quad Cab Pickup Truck with Yakima Q Tower Roof Rack System used to transport canoe.

2005 Toyota Quad Cab pickup truck rack for carrying a canoe. Using the Yakima Q Tower Roof Rack System on the cab roof and hitch t-mast on the rear trailer hitch for transporting the canoe.

Harnessing the power of a 2005 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck canoe rack to transport a full length canoe is executed efficiently with the Yakima Q Tower complete roof rack system using Yakima Q127 clips and Yakima Q128 clips (Q clips specific to this vehicle) and a Hitch Rack T-Mast to hold up the end of the canoe.  We couldn’t zoom in enough to see what this 2005 Toyota Tacoma Pickup Truck was using for a T-Mast hitch rack but if you ask me I’d tell you that the Yakima DryDock Hitch Canoe and Kayak Rack is the way to go. Don’t forget a 4 pack of Yakima locks and keys to lock the Q towers to the 2005 Toyota Tacoma 4 door cab top.

more information on how you might haul a canoe on a 2005 Toyota Tacoma truck canoe rack.

Yakima Q Towers Half Pack roof rack

This ORS Racks Direct demonstration video highlights the Yakima Q Tower Half Pack roof rack system, a single cross bar roof rack set up that is most often used in combination with a trailer hitch mount T-bar style hitch rack for hauling very long gear and equipment such as rowing sculls, canoes, lumber, ladders etc. The Yakima Q Towers Half Pack video shows the Yakima Q Towers Half Pack system used in combination with the Yakima DryDock T-bar hitch rack. It is also commonly used on the cab roof of a pickup truck to help stabilize very long items hauled on a pickup truck bed truck rack system.

Yakima DryDock hitch rack

An excellent solution for transporting long equpiment and gear, such as a canoe, extra-long kayaks, rowing shell, lumber, ladders and more, is to mount the Yakima DryDock T-bar hitch mast to any 2 inch trailer hitch receiver combined with a half pack roof rack system used on the front of the vehicle (in this video the Yakima Q Towers Half Pack roof rack is mounted to the pickup truck cab roof). Video includes a demonstration of how the 8002589 Yakima Dry Dock mounts to any 2″ trailer hitch, offers a broad range of height adjustability. Cross bar sold separately to allow for the selection of the cross bar length that suits your needs. The very long items you are hauling, such as canoe, kayaks, ladders, lumber etc., can then span between the front half pack roof rack crossbar and the rear Yakima DryDock crossbar.

I spy a Dodge Dakota Quad Cab roof mount rack with bed mount rack using Yakima's Q-Tower Half Pack base system (Yakima Q-Tower Half Pack, one pair of Yakima Q62 Q Clips, and single Yakima 48" crossbar) and Yakima's Outdoorsman 300 Compact truck rack.

Great shot of a 2004 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab using the Yakima Q-Tower Half Pack Base Rack System paired up with the Yakima Outdoorsman 300 Compact Truck Bed Rack using a single Yakima 58″ crossbar.  This combo is ideal for truck drivin’ folks who need adequate bar spread to carry canoes, lumber, ladders and other similar longer loads.  The Yakima Q-Tower single bar system uses the rear mounted crossbar position and is held on with a pair of Yakima Q62 Q-Clips and supports a single Yakima 48″ roundbar.
