Photo of a kayak roof rack on a 2006 Honda Civic Sedan using the Yakima Q Tower Roof Rack System (includes Yakima Q Towers, Yakima Q99 clips and Yakima Q31 clips and pair of 58 inch cross bars). Attached to the base rack cross bars is the Yakima BowDown folding j-cradle kayak rack and 50 inch Yakima Fairing.
This 2006 Honda Civic kayak roof rack system is totally decked out with a Yakima Q Tower Complete Roof Rack System and Yakima BowDown J-Cradle Style Folding Kayak Rack for carrying a kayak on the roof top. The Yakima Q Towers roof rack for a 2006 Honda Civic requires the use of Yakima Q99 Q Clips and Yakima Q31 Q clips. Yakima 58″ load bars are called for to meet the width requirements of the 2006 Honda Civic sedan rooftop when carrying a kayak. A 6 pack of Yakima locks and lock cores secure the rack system and kayak rack onto the 2006 Honda Civic Sedan (4 locks to lock the Yakima Q tower system to the car rooftop and 2 locks to secure the Yakima BowDown Folding J-Cradle to the roof top car rack system). The Yakima 50″ Fairing is used to cut down on noise created by wind and also helps preserve gas mileage that might be lost when transporting a kayak on top of a 2006 Honda Civic Sedan.

An excellent solution for carrying a kayak on factory racks, this image highlights a 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee roof rack kayak rack system using the Yakima BowDown kayak carrier on the Jeep Grand Cherokee factory rack cross rails.
The chance to mount a kayak rack directly to factory rack cross rails offers a great way to save money by not having to invest in an after-market multi-purpose base rack system. This customer installation picture demonstrates that solution via a 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee kayak rack on factory rack cross rails. The kayak carrier used is the 8004042 Yakima Bowdown cradles, which connect directly to the Jeep Grand Cherokee factory rack cross bars. A pair of yakima locks is also used to lock the Bowdown to the roof rack.

Picture of the Yakima BowDown kayak carrier used as a 2006 Subaru Forester kayak car rack system. The Bow Down is mounted to the Subaru Forrester factory rack crossbars.
An excellent example of how you can save some cash if you have a car factory rack and you want to carry a kayak. This customer install photograph shows how nicely a 2006 Subaru Forester kayak roof rack can look with the Yakima BowDown kayak rack attached to the Subaru Forrester factory rack crossbars. This setup also efficiently uses up very little crossbar space so there is plenty of room to attach other gear carriers (or a second Yakima BowDown) such as bike racks, snowboard-ski racks, cargo-luggage roof box etc. The Bow Down also can fold down when not being used so it looks very sleek and aerodynamic and also helps with fuel efficiency.
