2000 Honda Civic 2 Door Bike Rack

by Rack James on June 21, 2010

2000 Honda Civic car rack bike racks with Yakima Q Towers, Q69 and Q70 Q Clips, Yakima 48 inch Cross Bars, Yakima Q Stretch Kit, wind fairing, HighRoller upright style bike rack and Yakima Steelhead fork mounted bike carrier.

Customer install photo of a roof bike rack for 2000 Honda Civic 2 Door using the Yakima Q Tower car rack system (includes Yakima Q Towers, Yakima Q69 and Q70 Q Clips, Yakima 48" Cross Bars) with the Yakima Q Stretch Kit and Yakima 44" Large Fairing. Bike Trays are the Yakima HighRoller upright style bike rack and the Yakima Steelhead fork mounted bike tray.

2 door vehicles with naked roofs, like this 2000 Honda Civic, often require the use of a stretch kit to increase the cross bar spread to at least a minimum of 24″ which is just enough to safely carry most gear (canoes excluded).  This 2000 Honda Civic 2-door bike rack system is using the Yakima Q-Tower roof rack system (includes Yakima Q-Towers, Yakima Q69 Q clips and Yakima Q70 Q Clips, and Yakima 48″ Cross Bars) with the Yakima Q-Stretch kit and can easily transport two bicycles.  One bike carrier is the Yakima HighRoller bike rack, which doesn’t require the removal of the front wheel.  The other bike tray is the Yakima SteelHead bike rack, a fork mounted bike tray, which does require the removal of the front wheel.  To keep things nice and quiet up there, we have the Yakima 44″ Large Fairing-Wind Deflector.  A Yakima SKS 6 pack of locks keeps everything nice and secure from theft.

Carrying Canoe on 2005 Toyota Tacoma Pickup Truck

by Rack Princess on June 14, 2010

2005 Toyota Quad Cab Pickup Truck with Yakima Q Tower Roof Rack System used to transport canoe.

2005 Toyota Quad Cab pickup truck rack for carrying a canoe. Using the Yakima Q Tower Roof Rack System on the cab roof and hitch t-mast on the rear trailer hitch for transporting the canoe.

Harnessing the power of a 2005 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck canoe rack to transport a full length canoe is executed efficiently with the Yakima Q Tower complete roof rack system using Yakima Q127 clips and Yakima Q128 clips (Q clips specific to this vehicle) and a Hitch Rack T-Mast to hold up the end of the canoe.  We couldn’t zoom in enough to see what this 2005 Toyota Tacoma Pickup Truck was using for a T-Mast hitch rack but if you ask me I’d tell you that the Yakima DryDock Hitch Canoe and Kayak Rack is the way to go. Don’t forget a 4 pack of Yakima locks and keys to lock the Q towers to the 2005 Toyota Tacoma 4 door cab top.

Yakima Q Towers roof rack

If your car or pickup truck cab has nothing on the roof top currently, such as no factory rack or factory side rails, no raingutters / drip rails, no roof tracks, no fixed attachment points etc., most likely your vehicle will require the Yakima Q Towers roof rack system. This multi-purpose base rack system provides the foundation that will then allow for the attachment of any roof mount gear carrriers for transporting, ski & snowboards, bikes, kayaks, canoe, surfboards, stand up paddle boards, luggage and more. Included with the Yakima Q Towers roof rack system are a set of four Yakima Q Towers, two pairs of Yakima Q Clips and a pair of Yakima round cross bars. You will attach the gear carriers to the Q Tower cross bars. This Yakima Q Towers video from ORS Racks Direct explains and demonstrates the features of this system, how to install the Yakima Q Towers and more. Very quick to install with easy-to-follow instructions included, the Q Towers are the leading roof rack base system for vehicles with nothing on the roof top currently. Accessory options such as a 4-pack of Yakima locks & keys (to lock the roof rack to the vehicle) and wind fairing (for design styling and elimination of any possible rack noise or ‘whistling’) are highly recommended.

‘05 Toyota Corolla Kayak Rack for Roof

2005 Toyota Corolla roof kayak rack using the Yakima Q-Towers roof rack (with Yakima Q31 and Q99 Q-Clips), wind fairing and Yakima Hullraiser J-style kayak rack.

Install photo of a 2005 Toyota Corolla kayak rack using the Yakima Q-Tower Base Rack (Yakima Q-Towers, Yakima Q31 and Q99 Q-Clips, and Yakima 48" round bars) with Yakima 44" wind fairing and Yakima Hullraiser J-style kayak rack.

Ok all you sit-on-top kayak paddlers, here’s a great way to carry your boat.  There are of course, many other options, but this 2005 Toyota Corolla roof rack kayak carrier system is using the Yakima Q-Tower roof rack (includes set of Yakima Q Towers, pair of Yakima Q31 clips and pair of Yakima Q99 clips and also a pair of cross bars) as its base rack which is the foundation of a rooftop kayak rack for a naked roof.  It is decked out with a Yakima 44″ wind fairing, or wind deflector, or “flair” as one person calls it, and a set of Yakima SKS 4 locks to prevent theft.  Holding the sit-on-top kayak is the Yakima HullRaiser kayak rack.  This person knows how to roll, but I’m not sure how I feel about the unorthodox method used for strapping the boat down.  I might suggest using the included Yakima Heavy Duty Load Straps for the body of the kayak and the included Yakima Ratcheting Bow and Stern Tie Down Straps for the bow and stern.  If this is how you plan of strapping your boat down, then I would say drive really, really slow.

Attached to the base rack cross bars is the Yakima BowDown folding j-cradle kayak rack and 50 inch Yakima Fairing.

This 2006 Honda Civic kayak roof rack system  is totally decked out with a Yakima Q Tower Complete Roof Rack System and Yakima BowDown J-Cradle Style Folding Kayak Rack for carrying a kayak on the roof top. The Yakima Q Towers roof rack for a 2006 Honda Civic requires the use of  Yakima Q99 Q Clips and Yakima  Q31 Q clips. Yakima 58″ load bars are called for to meet the width requirements of the 2006 Honda Civic sedan rooftop when carrying a kayak. A 6 pack of Yakima locks and lock cores secure the rack system and kayak rack onto the 2006 Honda Civic Sedan (4 locks to lock the Yakima Q tower system to the car rooftop and 2 locks to secure the Yakima BowDown Folding J-Cradle to the roof top car rack system).  The Yakima 50″ Fairing is used to cut down on noise created by wind and also helps preserve gas mileage that might be lost when transporting a kayak on top of a 2006 Honda Civic Sedan.

Great sun-soaked photo of a 2009 Honda Civic bike roof rack system with the Yakima Q-Tower car rack system (includes Yakima Q-Towers, Yakima Q99 clips and Yakima Q131 clips, and Yakima 58" crossbars) finished off with the Yakima 50" Fairing and the Yakima High Roller bike rack.

Terrific shot of a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck kayak rack system with Yakima Q-Tower Half Pack System (Yakima Q-Tower Half Pack, Yakima Q118 Q-Clips, Yakima 66" crossbar) and Yakima DryDock hitch mounted rack with Yakima 66" bar and Yakima HullyRollers kayak rollers and Yakima Mako Saddles combo.

This customer needed to carry his kayak on his 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 and he has suceeded with flying colors.  For longer loads such as kayaks, canoes, and lumber, it’s best to achieve maximum crossbar spread between the front and rear crossbars, and this system allows that.  For the front crossbar on the truck cab, he has installed the Yakima Q-Tower Half pack system which is made up of a Yakima Q-Tower Half pack, one set of Yakima Q 118 Q clips, and a single Yakima 66″ roundbar.  For the rear crossbar, he is utilizing his receiver hitch and has installed a Yakima DryDock rack matched up with another single Yakima 66″ crossbar.  For supporting the kayak, he has a pair of Yakima HullyRollers on the rear crossbar for easy loading and unloading, and on the front crossbar he has a set of Yakima Mako saddles.  The truck bed remains empty for loading up all his gear.  Great job!

Your car has a naked roof and you feel like raising some hull. Here is a great way to reach your goal.  Start out with the Yakima Q-Tower system, which with its round bars fits rounded roofs like the one of this 2005 Toyota Matrix perfectly.  This Q-Tower complete set up uses a set of Yakima Q-Towers, one set of Yakima Q83 Q-clips and one set of Yakima Q116 clips, a pair of Yakima 48″ round bars, and for theft prevention, a Yakima SKS 4 lock pack .  For theft protection for your boats, we suggest the Yakima BoatLoacker kayak lock. Once your Yakima Q-Tower multi purpose base rack system is in place, you are free to attach the specific carriers you need to carry your gear.  In the case of carrying kayaks, the Yakima HullRaiser kayak rack is a great choice, and this customer, who needs to carry two boats, went ahead and installed two of ‘em.

Stellar shot of a 2009 Nissan Cube with Yakima Q-Tower Base Rack System (Yakima Q Towers, Q31 Clips, and 78" Roundbars) with four Malone AutoLoader kayak racks.

Stellar shot of a 2009 Nissan Cube roof kayak rack system using the Yakima Q-Tower Base Rack System (Yakima Q Towers, Q31 Clips, and 78" Roundbars) with four Malone AutoLoader kayak racks.

Here’s a great example of how a roof mounted base rack system can haul a serious–heck, seemingly impossible–amount of gear.  This 2009 Nissan Cube comes out of the factory with what we call a “naked roof” so the first order of business for this customer was installing the Yakima Q Tower system, which constists of a set of Yakima Q Towers, two pairs of #31 Yakima Q Clips, and a pair of Yakima Roundbars.  The Cube calls for 58″ bars, but because this customer needed maximum gear capacity, he went with a pair of 78″ bars upon which he has installed four Malone AutoLoader J-style kayak cradles.   To complete the system, as well as reduce the wind noise, he has installed a Yakima 50″ Fairing and the whole thing is locked down with a set of Yakima SKS 4 locks

2009 Audi A4 Roof Rack System with Bike Racks

by rackdawg on September 21, 2009

Q: I’ve been searching for compatible options for a 2009 Audi A4 roof rack (sedan model). I can’t find any car racks that work with this car. Am I out of luck?

A: The Yakima Q Tower multi-purpose base rack system is works superbly as a 2009 Audi a4 sedan car rack system. Attaches directly to your vehicle’s smooth rooftop that currently has no factory rack, factory side rails, rain gutters etc. Provides a sturdy base rack system capable of safely transporting all kinds of gear. You can attach any Yakima roof mount bike carriers to the base rack cross bars.

2007 Honda Accord Roof Rack System Options

by rackdawg on September 21, 2009

Q: I’m looking into getting a 2007 Honda Accord sedan car rack system. What are the best options for me?

A: The Thule 400XT Aero, Inno INSU and Yakima Q Tower multi-purpose base rack systems will all attach directly to your vehicle’s smooth rooftop that currently has no factory rack, factory side rails, rain gutters etc. All of these options provides a sturdy base rack system capable of safely transporting all kinds of gear. You can attach gear carriers to the base rack cross bars for transporting bikes, skis-snowboards, surfboards, canoe, kayaks, luggage and much more.

Mounting the Thule Storage Bike Rack to the Wall

Q: Can the Thule BSTK2 bike storage rack be mounted on the wall to get the bikes a little higher and out of the way? Does the base come apart I could wall mount?

A: Yes the base is removeable, so it is possible to custom install to the wall providing you have the skill to drill and mount etc. This is not something recommended by Thule Racks, of course, and would invalidate the warranty. Other easier options can be found using some of the Delta bike storage racks such as the Leonardo or Chagall models.

Using Yakima Q Tower Roof Rack as a Ford Focus Car Rack System

Q: Can the Yakima Q Tower car racks cause rain to seep into around door? I am think of using this as a Ford Focus roof rack.

A: No chance of rain getting in. Car rack manufacturers invest much time and money engineering systems to prevent any possible water issues. The Q Towers roofrack is no exception. The Q clips provide a seemless fit so they don’t impact the car doors.

—————————————-

Inno Car Rack Fairing on 2010 Subaru Forester X Factory Rack

Q: Thinking about an Inno fairing for my 2010 Subaru Forester X. I have the factory crossbars only, with a Yakima Powderhound ski rack on top and am getting CONSIDERABLE wind noise at 50+ mph. The sizing guide says to use a 32 inch, but it seems like the 39 inch would be more appropriate (as the “silver part” of the crossbar itself is 38.5 inches). Which size do you think is best, and will this Inno Fairing be compatible with what I have/solve my wind noise problem?

A: That sounds like a very tight fit, and this is probably why Inno Racks decided on the small size in this situation. But if the total measurement of the crossbar from the inside of each side rail is at least 39″ then this should fit. You can always trim the fairing edges if that what it takes to make a perfect fit. Fairings are designed to eliminate that rack noise that can randomly occur. You’ll be happy with how effective the fairing takes care of this issue.
